A frequent concern patients experience is skin that becomes red, itchy, and inflamed. These symptoms can arise from a variety of causes, including medication reactions, eczema, and contact dermatitis. Among these, contact dermatitis is one of the most common underlying causes.
Contact dermatitis occurs when the skin reacts unfavorably to an external exposure or irritant. This may include certain skincare products, fragrances, cosmetics, jewelry, metals, fabrics, detergents, or other substances that come into direct contact with the skin. Reactions can be either irritant or allergic in nature and may vary in severity.
The cornerstone of treatment is identifying and eliminating the triggering exposure. Once the irritant or allergen is removed, the skin can begin to recover. Dr. Doyle will then recommend a gentle, restorative skincare regimen and may prescribe topical and/or oral medications as needed, based on the severity of the condition and the patient’s individual medical history.
With accurate diagnosis and a targeted treatment approach, symptoms can often be effectively controlled, allowing the skin to heal and return to a healthy, comfortable state.
